Abstract:

The Philippine maritime industry continues to be greatly affected by the threats of the COVID-19 pandemic to sea-based workers, particularly seafarers. These threats can be classified as physical, social, emotional, and mental (NMP, 2020). As previously reported in the first phase of the study, the gap in the response to address the emotional and mental threats of the COVID-19 pandemic to seafarers as well as the lack of a national emergency preparedness plan led to the continuing examination of this study on the actions taken by shipping companies deploying seafarers and their existing emergency preparedness plans or the establishments thereof. This current study highlights the response of these shipping companies to protect their seafarers’ health and well-being.
