PHILIPPINE MARITIME MANPOWER FACTBOOK 2020 & 2021
This research project aims to sustain the production of a comprehensive Philippine Maritime Manpower Factbook with updated country report containing relevant industry-related data and statistics at regular intervals that will be readily accessible to the industry stakeholders in aid of policy review and formulation and/or program review and development.
To institutionalize the generation and production of the Philippine Maritime Manpower Factbook, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the data producers – MARINA, POEA, CHED, PCG, OWWA, for the collection of data on a regular and timely basis has been initiated.
As a way of standardizing data collection and towards a more in-depth data analysis, data producer agencies have been enjoined to segregate data by year, by regional distribution, by sex dis-aggregation, by vessel type, by license, by rank and other relevant categorizations.
The Factbook seeks to provide a picture of the Philippine maritime manpower sector, presented in facts and figures that are derived from the data of various relevant data producer agencies, researches and published reports. This edition contains updates of the initial issue in 2018 with the latest data available covering the period 2018-2020 on the country’s sea-based skills related indicators and statistics from both domestic and international sources. Available data for 2021 were also incorporated.
The data on global maritime landscape are taken from regular internationally published reports such as the UNCTAD Review of Maritime Transport, UNCTAD Handbook of Statistics, Drewry Mariitme Research Manning Annual Review and Forecast, BIMCO/ISF Seafarer Workforce Report, among others. Meanwhile, Philippine data are generated from the country’s government agencies, which are data producers of identified key indicators.
